Compare both square sizes with the furniture width. The 31.5-inch version gives the wave more presence on an open wall; the 20-inch version leaves more surrounding space.

Beside an armchair
Use the 20-inch square on a compact wall beside the chair. A lamp placed to one side brings out the carved ridges during evening reading.
